Basketball Clair Bee 1-3-1 Zone Defense

Basic Alignment

The goal is to keep 3 players between the ball and the basket.
In the initial set-up, x1, x4, and x5 are between the ball and basket.

Off-Set Alignment

If the ball is off of the midline, the defense adjusts so that x1, x4, and x5 are between the ball and the
basket.

Wing/Corner Alignment

If the ball is passed to the wing or the corner, the three-in-line principle still applies.
x3, x4, and x5 are between the ball and the basket.

Dribble Toward Wing

As the ball is dribbled toward the wing, x3 will pick up the ball and x1 will drop back to the high post.

Alignment after X1 and X3 Switch

x3, x4, and x5 are between the ball and the basket.
x1 is guarding against a pass to the high post.

Skip Pass Movement

If the ball is skipped, all players must move toward the ball on the pass.

Wing Alignment after Skip Pass

Formation after the skip pass.
x2, x4, and x5 are between the ball and the basket.
